How-to Guide

1. Open group avatar settings

Entry: Group chat window → upper-right ... → group avatar icon

  1. Open the target group chat window.
  2. Click the ... button in the upper-right corner to open the chat settings panel.
  3. In the chat settings panel, click the group avatar icon.
  4. After the Group Avatar page opens, click Change Group Avatar in the lower-right corner.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The Group Avatar page opens and shows the current avatar preview.
  • Next action available: You can continue with either local upload or text editing.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you are not in the correct group chat, the upper-right entry will not open the settings for the intended group.
  • Permissions or membership: This feature is not membership-restricted, but whether the change entry is available depends on group permissions.

2. Change the avatar by local upload

Entry: Change Group Avatar → Local Upload

  1. On the Group Avatar page, click Change Group Avatar.
  2. In the dialog box, select Local Upload.
  3. Click Please select an image to upload and choose an image file from your computer.
  4. Select a JPG, JPEG, or PNG image and review the crop preview on the left and the current avatar comparison on the right.
  5. Adjust the crop area.
  6. Click OK in the lower-right corner to finish the update.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The group avatar is updated to the uploaded image.
  • Next action available: After returning to the chat, the new avatar can be seen at the top of the conversation or in the chat list.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Uploading a file that is not in JPG, JPEG, or PNG format may prevent the update from completing as expected.

3. Change the avatar with text editing

Entry: Change Group Avatar → Text Editing

  1. On the Group Avatar page, click Change Group Avatar.
  2. In the dialog box, switch to Text Editing.
  3. Enter the group name or identifying text in the avatar text box.
  4. Keep the text within 6 characters.
  5. Choose a background color under Avatar Color.
  6. Choose either Filled or Outlined under Avatar Style.
  7. Review the live preview on the right.
  8. Click OK to save the new text avatar.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The group avatar displays the configured text, color, and style.
  • Next action available: You can reopen the change dialog later to adjust the text or style again.

  • Common mistake: If the text is too long, the avatar becomes harder to recognize.
