1. Start a Reference Reply
Entry point: target message → hover → Reply button
- Find the message you want to reply to in the chat.
- Hover over that message.
- Click Reply in the toolbar that appears beside the message.
- The editor switches to reply mode automatically.
- You can also right-click the target message and select Reply.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the message editor enters reply mode and shows the quoted message area.
- What you can do next: you can type your reply directly in the input box.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if you do not hover over the target message, the message toolbar may not appear.
- Environment note: open a chat conversation where sending messages is available.
2. Edit the Reply Content
Entry point: message editor → quote area → text input box
- After reply mode opens, review the quote area above the editor.
- Confirm that the sender name and message preview match the message you want to reference.
- Check the auto-filled @mention in the text input box.
- Type your reply content.
- If you want to cancel this reply, click the × button in the quote area.
- When the content is ready, click Send.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the quote area shows the referenced message summary and the input box is editable.
- What you can do next: you can send the reply or click × to leave reply mode.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: typing immediately without checking the referenced message can send a reply to the wrong context.

3. Review the Display Result
Entry point: shown automatically in the chat after sending
- Send the reply message.
- Find the newly sent reply in the chat history.
- Confirm that the reference area appears above the reply content.
- Check whether the sender and message summary in the reference area match the original message.
- Click the message summary in the reference area and confirm that the chat view jumps to the original message.
- If unread counts are enabled in the conversation, review the unread indicator below the message.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the reply appears as a reference card with clear context.
- What you can do next: clicking the reference area can take you back to the original message.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: treating the reference area as plain text and missing the jump-back behavior.
