How-to Guide
1. Merge Cells
Entry: Table Tools → Merge Cells
- Drag to select the adjacent cells that you want to merge.
- Click the Table Tools tab.
- Click Merge Cells.
- The selected cells are merged into one cell.
- The content is combined in the merged cell.
Success Criteria
- On-screen result: The selected adjacent cells appear as one cell.
- What you can do next: You can continue typing, change alignment, or adjust table styles.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If the selected cells are not adjacent, the merge result may not match your expectation.

2. Split Cells
Entry: Table Tools → Split Cells
- Click the cell that you want to split.
- Click the Table Tools tab.
- Click Split Cells.
- In the dialog box, set the number of rows and columns.
- Click OK to finish.
Success Criteria
- On-screen result: The selected cell is divided into the specified rows and columns.
- What you can do next: You can enter content into the new cells or continue formatting them.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: Closing the dialog box before confirming row and column counts prevents the split from being applied.

3. Merge or Split from the Right-Click Menu
Entry: Right-click menu → Merge Cells / Split Cells
- Select the cells that you want to merge or split.
- Right-click the selected area.
- Select Merge Cells or Split Cells.
- Complete the action based on the on-screen prompt.
Success Criteria
- On-screen result: The table structure changes immediately after the command is applied.
