How-to Guide
1. Insert an Endnote
Feature entry: References tab → Insert Endnote
- Place the cursor where you want to add the endnote.
- Click Insert Endnote on the References tab.
- A note area appears at the end of the document.
- Type the note content in the endnote area.
- Return to the main text and confirm that the reference number appears automatically.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: A reference number appears in the main text, and a matching endnote area appears at the end of the document.
- You can continue: You can edit the note content or insert another endnote.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If the cursor is not placed first, the endnote may be inserted in the wrong position.
- Environment note: This action requires an editable document.
2. Go to the Previous Endnote
Feature entry: References tab → Previous Endnote
- Open a document that contains multiple endnotes.
- Click the References tab.
- Click Previous Endnote.
- Check whether the view moves to the earlier endnote.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The view jumps to the previous endnote location.
- You can continue: You can edit that note or continue navigating.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If the document has only one endnote, the navigation effect may not be obvious.
3. Go to the Next Endnote
Feature entry: References tab → Next Endnote
- Open a document that contains multiple endnotes.
- Click the References tab.
- Click Next Endnote.
- Check whether the view moves to the later endnote.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The view jumps to the next endnote location.
- You can continue: You can continue reviewing later notes.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If the document contains only a small number of endnotes, navigation range is limited.
4. Set Endnote Format
Feature entry: References tab → lower-right arrow in the Footnotes and Endnotes area → Footnotes and Endnotes
- Click the References tab.
- Click the lower-right arrow in the Footnotes and Endnotes area to open the Footnotes and Endnotes dialog.
- Set the endnote location, such as end of document or end of section.
- Set the numbering format, such as i, ii, iii or 1, 2, 3.
- Set the starting number.
- Choose the apply scope and click Apply.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The endnote location or numbering format updates according to your settings.
- You can continue: You can keep inserting endnotes with the current settings.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you do not confirm the target section before changing the apply scope, other parts of the document may also be affected.
