Feature entry: References tab → Directory drop-down menu
- Place the cursor where you want to insert the directory, usually near the beginning of the document.
- Click the References tab.
- Open the Directory drop-down menu.

- The directory is generated automatically from the heading styles already used in the document.

2. Update the Directory
Feature entry: References tab → Update Directory
- When document content or page numbers change, click the existing directory area first.
- Click Update Directory on the References tab.
- Choose the update method based on your needs, such as updating page numbers only or updating the entire directory.
- Click OK to finish.

- Interface result: The headings or page numbers in the directory reflect the current document state.

Tips While Using
- If you added or changed heading text, update the entire directory.
- If only page numbers changed, updating page numbers only may be enough.
3. Adjust Directory Levels
Feature entry: References tab → Directory Level drop-down menu
- Select the heading text whose directory level you want to adjust.
- Click the References tab.
- Open the Directory Level drop-down menu.
- Choose the appropriate directory level for the current heading.
- Update the directory if you want to review the result immediately.

4. Customize Directory Style
Feature entry: References tab → Directory drop-down menu → Custom Directory
- Click the References tab.
- Open the Directory drop-down menu.
- Select Custom Directory.
- In the dialog box, set the number of displayed levels, whether to show page numbers, whether page numbers are right-aligned, and whether to use hyperlinks.
- Click OK to apply the settings.
