  1. Open the target collaborative document.
  2. Click the File Operations button in the upper-left corner.
  3. Select Open in Other Ways from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Generate Local Shortcut.
  5. Wait for the shortcut to be downloaded automatically to the local download path.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The shortcut is generated and downloaded.
  • What you can do next: You can view the shortcut in the local download path.
  • No side effect: The original collaborative document stays in its original location.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the target collaborative document is not open first, you cannot start this flow directly.
  • Environment note: Network access is needed during generation and download.

2. Check the downloaded shortcut

Entry: Local download path

  1. After generating the local shortcut, open the Windows Downloads folder.
  2. Find the newly generated document shortcut.
  3. Double-click the shortcut and confirm that it opens the original document quickly.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The shortcut file appears in the local download path.
  • What you can do next: Double-clicking the shortcut opens the original document.
  • No side effect: Removing the shortcut does not affect the original document content.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Treating the shortcut as if it were the original file itself.
  • Environment note: If the original document has been deleted or is no longer accessible, the shortcut may stop working.

3. Move or copy the shortcut to another path

Entry: Windows File Explorer

  1. Find the generated shortcut in the local download path.
  2. Choose Cut or Copy based on your needs.
  3. Open the target local path, such as the desktop or a project folder.
  4. Paste the shortcut to finish organizing it.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The shortcut appears in the target path.
  • What you can do next: Double-clicking it from the new location still opens the original document.
  • No side effect: Moving or copying the shortcut does not change where the original document is stored.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Expecting the shortcut to keep working after the original document has been deleted.
  • Environment note: The target path must allow file writing.
