When using Create Local Shortcut, the most common questions are about file relationships, shortcut validity, and management. This FAQ includes 3 common questions and a glossary.
FAQ
Does adding a shortcut copy the original document?
- No. Creating a local shortcut only generates a local entry point to the original document.
- The original document stays in its original location and is not moved when the shortcut is created.
- The shortcut does not replace the original document and does not create a full duplicate file.
Does deleting the shortcut affect the original document?
- Deleting the shortcut only removes the local entry point.
- The original collaborative document remains in its original location and can still be accessed through WPS or other existing entry points.
- If you need the shortcut again, generate it again with the same workflow.
Why can’t the shortcut open the original document?
- First, check whether the original document still exists and whether you still have permission to access it.
- Then confirm that the current device has a working network connection, because collaborative document access usually requires it.
- If the original document has been deleted, moved, or had its permissions changed, the shortcut may no longer open the target document.
