Tips While Using
- If you do not see the Department type, confirm that you are working in a Smart Table data table.
- Use a clear field name so later filtering and summaries are easier to manage.
2. Configure Field Settings
Entry: The settings panel when creating a Department field, or right-click an existing Department field header → Field Settings
- Right-click the header of an existing Department field.
- Select Field Settings.
- Turn on Allow selecting multiple departments if one cell should store more than one department.

- Turn on Auto-fetch department if new records should fill in the current user’s department automatically.
- Save the settings.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The field settings take effect after you save them.
- What you can do next: Return to the table and test multiple selection, full path display, or auto-fill behavior.
Tips While Using
- Auto-fetch department mainly affects new records and does not backfill existing ones automatically.
- If your organization has departments with similar names, full department information helps distinguish them.

Entry: Click a cell in the Department field
- Click the Department field cell you want to fill.
- In the department picker panel, browse the organization tree.
- Select the target department.
- Confirm the selection and check the department name shown in the cell.
- If Allow selecting multiple departments is enabled, continue selecting additional departments.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The cell shows the selected department name or the full department path.
- What you can do next: Filter, group, or summarize records by the Department field.
Tips While Using
- If no departments are available, add or sync department data in the organization structure first.
- When multiple selection is off, each cell can store only one department.
