How-to Guide

1. Insert a Shape

Entry: Insert tab → Shape

  1. Click Shape on the Insert tab.
  2. Select the shape you want from the shape library.
  3. Click and drag in the worksheet to draw the shape.
  4. If needed, add text inside the shape.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The selected shape appears in the worksheet.
  • Next action available: You can select the shape and continue moving it, typing in it, or formatting it.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not drag in the worksheet area, the shape may not appear at the expected size.
  • Environment note: Different shapes may start with different default styles.

2. Format a Shape

Entry: Select a shape → Drawing Tools tab → Format Shape

  1. Select the shape that you want to adjust.
  2. Open the Drawing Tools tab.
  3. Open the Format Shape entry.
  4. Adjust fill and line, effects, size, and properties in the side pane.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The format pane opens and the shape style changes.
  • Next action available: You can continue changing color, border, transparency, or size.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the shape is not selected first, the formatting entry may be unavailable.

3. Edit Shape Vertices

Entry: Right-click a shape → Edit Vertices

  1. Right-click the shape that you want to adjust.
  2. Select Edit Vertices.
  3. Drag the vertices to change the outline.
  4. Click outside the shape to exit editing mode when finished.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The shape outline changes based on your edits.
  • Next action available: You can continue formatting, moving, or copying the shape.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Not every shape supports obvious vertex changes.
