How-to Guide
1. Merge cells from Home
Entry: Tools → Home → Merge Cells
- Open a WPS spreadsheet file and tap Edit in the lower-left corner to enter editing mode.
- Drag the selection handles to select the adjacent cells that you want to merge.
- Tap Tools and switch to Home.
- Find and tap Merge Cells.
- Check whether the selected area is now one merged cell.
- If you want to cancel the merge, tap Merge Cells again.
Success Criteria
- Visual result: the selected area appears as one merged cell.
- Next action available: you can continue typing, formatting, or saving the file.
- No side effect: other unselected cells keep their original structure.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if the selected cells are not adjacent, the merge will not work as expected.
- Environment note: you need to enter editing mode before the editing tools appear.
2. Merge and split cells from the floating toolbar
Entry: Floating toolbar → Merge / Split
- Select the cell range that you want to edit.
- Tap to open the floating editing toolbar.
- Tap Merge to combine the selected area into one cell.
- Select the merged cell again and open the floating toolbar.
- Tap Split to restore the original structure.
Success Criteria
- Visual result: the area merges after Merge and returns to separate cells after Split.
- Next action available: you can continue editing content or formatting the sheet.
- No side effect: other parts of the table remain unchanged.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if you do not select the target area first, the toolbar action may apply incorrectly.
- Environment note: the floating toolbar appears after cells are selected.
3. Check which data is kept after merging
Entry: Review the merged cell after the action
- Before merging, check whether the selected area contains multiple important values.
- Complete the merge action.
- Review the merged cell and confirm that only the upper-left cell content is kept.
- If the result is not what you want, use Undo or unmerge immediately.
Success Criteria
- Visual result: the merged cell shows only the original upper-left content.
- Next action available: you can keep the new layout or undo and reorganize the data.
- No side effect: quick undo helps reduce accidental overwriting.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: merging before checking the selected data can remove content from non-upper-left cells.
- Environment note: review important data before merging in business or study sheets.
