1. Merge cells from the Tools panel

Entry point: Tools → Home → Merge Cells

  1. Open your WPS spreadsheet file and tap Edit in the lower-left corner to enter editing mode.
  2. Drag the selection handles on the cell borders to select the cell range you want to merge.
  3. Tap Tools and switch to the Home section.
  4. Scroll to find and tap Merge Cells.
  5. The selected cells are merged into one cell, and only the value in the upper-left cell is kept.
  6. If you want to cancel the current merged state, tap the related merge option again.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: Multiple adjacent cells appear as one continuous cell area.
  • Next actions: You can continue typing, formatting, or saving the file.
  • No side effects: Data that was not retained does not return automatically, so confirm important content before the action.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If adjacent cells are not selected, the merge may not work as expected.
  • Environment limits: You need to enter editing mode before using the command in the Tools panel.

2. Merge or split cells from the floating toolbar

Entry point: Floating toolbar → Merge / Split

  1. Select the cell range that you want to merge in the spreadsheet.
  2. Tap to bring up the floating editing toolbar.
  3. Tap Merge in the toolbar to combine the selected area into one cell.
  4. If you want to restore the original structure, bring up the floating editing toolbar again.
  5. Tap Split to restore the merged cell to its original state.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: After Merge, the selected area becomes one cell. After Split, it returns to multiple separate cells.
  • Next actions: You can continue adjusting content, formatting, or saving changes.
  • No side effects: Splitting restores the original structure, but it does not restore content that was overwritten before the merge.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If the target range is not selected first, the floating toolbar action may apply differently than expected.
  • Environment limits: The split action applies to cells that have already been merged.
