How-to Guide
1. Quickly show or hide grid lines (View tab)
Entry: View tab → Show Gridlines
- Open the worksheet that you want to edit.
- Click the View tab at the top of the window.
- Find the Show Gridlines checkbox in the display area.
- Select the checkbox to show grid lines, or clear it to hide grid lines.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the gray dividing lines between cells appear or disappear immediately.
- Next step available: you can continue editing cells, applying borders, or opening print preview.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: do not confuse worksheet grid lines with cell borders, because borders remain visible separately.
- Environment note: this setting mainly affects the current viewing result.
2. Show or hide grid lines from the File menu
Entry: File menu → Options → View → Gridlines
- Click the File menu.
- Click Options.
- Switch to the View panel.
- Select or clear Gridlines in the display area.
- Confirm the setting and return to the worksheet to check the result.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: worksheet grid lines are shown or hidden based on your setting.
- Next step available: you can continue adjusting worksheet appearance through other view or page setup options.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if you do not see a change, confirm that you are working in a spreadsheet worksheet instead of another WPS component.
3. Change gridline color in Options
Entry: File menu → Options → View → Window Options → Gridline Color
- Click the File menu.
- Click Options.
- Switch to the View panel.
- In Window Options, find Gridline Color.
- Open the color list and choose the color you want.
- Click OK to save the setting.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the worksheet gridline color changes to the selected color.
- Next step available: you can continue reviewing the sheet, adjusting borders, or checking the page before printing.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if cells already have strong borders, those borders may visually cover the grid lines.
4. Show grid lines when printing
Entry: Page Layout tab → Page Setup → Sheet → Gridlines
- Open the worksheet that you want to print.
- Click the Page Layout tab.
- Open the Page Setup dialog box.
- Switch to the Sheet tab.
- Select Gridlines.
- Click OK, then open print preview or print the worksheet.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: grid lines appear in print preview or in the printed output.
- Next step available: you can continue adjusting margins, orientation, or other print settings.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: hiding grid lines on screen does not automatically mean they will be hidden in print output; printing is controlled separately in Page Setup.
