How-to Guide
1. Turn on Fill
Entry: Method 1 is Tools → Home → Fill; Method 2 is Floating menu bar → Fill
- Select the cell range that you want to fill, and make sure the source data starts at the top or left side of the range.
- If you use the tool-area entry, tap Tools and then tap Home.
- Tap Fill.
- Or tap the selected range to open the floating menu bar, then tap Fill.
- When Fill mode starts, draggable arrows appear to the right and below the source cell.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The selected range stays highlighted, and fill arrows appear to the right and below the source cell.
- What you can do next: You can drag downward or to the right to continue filling.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you do not select the target cell range first, the Fill entry or fill arrows may not appear.
- Environment note: This feature must be used in an editable spreadsheet.
2. Fill by Dragging the Arrows
Entry: After Fill mode is enabled, drag the arrow to the right or below the source cell
- First complete the steps in Turn on Fill.
- Check the arrows that appear to the right and below the source cell.
- Drag downward to fill adjacent cells below.
- Drag to the right to fill adjacent cells on the right.
- When finished, tap another area of the sheet to exit Fill mode.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The target area shows the filled content.
- What you can do next: You can continue editing, save the file, or select another range to fill.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If the target area already contains data, Fill will overwrite the existing content.
- Environment note: In a filtered sheet, Fill affects visible cells only and does not fill hidden rows.
3. Use Copy Fill
Entry: After dragging to fill, tap Copy Fill at the top of the fill operation interface
- Drag a fill arrow once to complete a downward or rightward fill.
- Check for the Copy Fill button at the top of the fill operation interface.
- Tap Copy Fill.
- The app will stop continuing a sequence and will copy the original content instead.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The target area repeats the original value instead of continuing a sequence.
- What you can do next: You can adjust the fill range again or exit Fill mode.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you want numbers to continue in order, do not switch to Copy Fill.
- Environment note: Copy Fill also overwrites existing content in the target area, so confirm the destination first.
