1. Insert a Comment from the Right-Click Menu

Entry point: Select a cell → right-click menu → Comment

  1. Select the target cell where you want to add a comment.
  2. Right-click the cell and choose Comment.
  3. Enter the comment content in the comment input box.
  4. Click anywhere outside the input box to save it.
  5. Check whether a red marker appears in the upper-right corner of the cell.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: A red marker appears in the upper-right corner of the target cell.
  • Next action available: You can hover over the cell to view the comment content.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not select the cell first, the comment may not be added to the intended location.
  • Environment note: If the file is read-only, you may not be able to add a new comment.

2. Insert a Comment from the Menu Bar

Entry point: Top menu bar InsertComment

  1. Select the target cell.
  2. Click Insert on the top menu bar.
  3. Select Comment.
  4. Enter the content in the comment input box.
  5. Click a blank area to finish inserting the comment.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The target cell shows a comment marker.
  • Next action available: You can continue to view, reply to, or delete the comment later.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the wrong cell is active, the comment will be inserted into that active cell instead.
  • Environment note: For online collaboration replies, keep the network connection stable.

3. Delete a Comment

Entry point: Select a cell with a comment → ... in the comment area → Delete Comment

  1. Select the cell that already contains a comment.
  2. Open the comment content area.
  3. Click the ... icon in the upper-right area of the comment box.
  4. Select Delete Comment.
  5. Confirm that the comment marker disappears from the cell.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The comment content is removed and the red marker disappears.
  • Next action available: You can keep editing the cell or insert a new comment again.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Deleting the cell content does not automatically delete the comment. You need to remove the comment separately.
  • Environment note: If your current account does not have editing permission, you may not be able to delete an existing comment.
