1. Quickly Insert Page Numbers

Entry points:

  • Insert tab → Page Number
  • Home tab → Insert → Page Number
  • Page tab → Page Number
  • Insert tab → Header & Footer → Page Number
  • Page tab → Header & Footer → Page Number
  1. Open the document where you want to add page numbers.
  2. Use any available entry point to open the Page Number menu.
  3. Choose a preset style such as center header or center footer.
  4. Confirm the selection to add page numbers to the document.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: page numbers appear in the document header or footer area.
  • Next action available: you can continue to More Settings to adjust format or range.

2. Set Page Number Format

Entry point: Insert tab → Page Number → More Settings

  1. Click Insert.
  2. Click Page Number, then select More Settings.
  3. Choose a numbering format such as 1, 2, 3... or Page 1, Page 2, Page 3....
  4. Set the page number position and apply range.
  5. If needed, use Restart Page Numbering to set a starting number.
  6. Select Different First Page or Different Odd & Even Pages when needed.
  7. Confirm the settings to apply the page number result.

3. Remove Page Numbers

Entry point: double-click an inserted page number → Delete

  1. Double-click the inserted page number area in the document.
  2. Find and click Delete in the floating menu.
  3. Choose a delete range such as This Page, Entire Document, This Page and Before, This Page and After, or This Section.
  4. Confirm the action to remove the page numbers.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: page numbers are removed from the selected range.
  • Next action available: you can insert a new page number style or set a new numbering rule.

Tips While Using

  • Check the delete range before confirming so you do not remove page numbers from the whole document by mistake.
  • In section-based documents, deleting by This Section is more suitable for local adjustments.
