1. Create a Group

Feature entry: Data → Create Group

  1. Select the continuous rows or continuous columns that you want to group.
  2. Click Create Group on the Data tab.
  3. In the dialog box, choose Rows or Columns as the grouping type.
  4. Click OK to finish.
  5. Repeat the same steps if you need to create multiple groups.

Success Criteria

  • Outline buttons or collapse symbols appear in the interface.
  • The selected rows or columns become an expandable and collapsible group.

Tips While Using

  • This feature applies to continuous row or column ranges.
  • Select row areas before grouping rows, and select column areas before grouping columns.

2. Ungroup Data Rows and Columns

Feature entry: Data → Ungroup

  1. Place the cursor in the grouped area that you want to remove.
  2. Click Ungroup on the Data tab.
  3. Finish removing the group for the current area.

Success Criteria

  • The previous outline buttons or collapse structure are removed.
  • The target area returns to a normal display state.

Tips While Using

  • It is helpful to confirm that the cursor is inside the target grouped area before you start.

3. Configure Outline Settings

Feature entry: Data → Outline Settings

  1. Click the Data tab.
  2. Click the Outline Settings arrow.
  3. In the pane, select or clear Below detail data or To the right of detail data.
  4. Click OK to save the setting.

Success Criteria

  • The display position of outline symbols updates based on your setting.
  • Grouped data is shown in a layout that better matches your reading preference.

Tips While Using

  • This setting affects how outline symbols are displayed after grouping.

4. Group Worksheets

Feature entry: worksheet tabs at the bottom

  1. Press and hold Cmd.
  2. Click each worksheet tab that you want to group at the bottom of the window.
  3. After all target worksheets are selected, the worksheet group is created.

Success Criteria

  • Multiple target worksheets enter a grouped state.
  • Later edits are applied to the grouped worksheets together.

Tips While Using

  • This works well for worksheets with the same structure.
  • Before editing, confirm whether you want the changes to apply to every selected worksheet.

5. Ungroup Worksheets

Feature entry: Right-click a worksheet tab → Ungroup Worksheets

  1. Right-click any worksheet tab in the grouped set.
  2. Select Ungroup Worksheets.
  3. Finish removing the worksheet group.

Success Criteria

  • Worksheets return to an individual editing state.
  • Later changes no longer sync to other worksheets.

Tips While Using

  • After batch editing, ungroup worksheets promptly to avoid unintended changes across multiple sheets.
