How do I quickly collapse or expand detail data after creating a group?

  1. After you create a row or column group, look for the outline buttons on the left side or at the top of the sheet.
  2. Click 1/2/3 or the plus and minus controls.
  3. Collapse or expand the related detail data as needed.

Why can't I create a group for the selected range?

  1. Check whether the current selection is a continuous row range or continuous column range.
  2. Make sure you selected row areas for row grouping or column areas for column grouping.
  3. Select the correct range again, then run Create Group.

Why do edits affect multiple worksheets after I group worksheets?

  1. When worksheets are grouped, edits are applied to all grouped worksheets.
  2. If you only want to edit the current worksheet, right-click a worksheet tab first.
  3. Select Ungroup Worksheets before continuing.

How to group rows and columns in a spreadsheet and change outline symbol positions?

  1. Open Outline Settings from the Data tab.
  2. Choose whether symbols appear below detail data or to the right of detail data.
  3. Save the setting and review whether the outline layout matches your spreadsheet structure.
