How do I update an index that has already been generated?

  1. Find the generated index in the document.
  2. Right-click the index and select Update Field.
  3. You can also press Fn+F9 to refresh it.

How do I delete a specific index entry mark?

  1. Locate the related index entry mark in the document.
  2. Find the corresponding {XE} field code.
  3. Delete that field code and then update the index.

Why is the index empty after I insert it?

  1. Check whether any index entries have already been marked in the document.
  2. Make sure at least one valid keyword was marked before inserting the index.
  3. Insert the index again or update the existing one.

What types of documents is Index Entry suitable for?

  1. It works well for books, manuals, academic papers, and policy documents.
  2. It is especially useful when a document contains many terms, topics, or specialized names.
  3. For short documents, heading-based navigation is often enough.
