When using Restore Departed Members, the most common questions fall into 3 areas: permissions, recovery timing, and data boundaries; this section answers 3 frequent questions.
FAQ
After I restore a departed member, do their previous document permissions come back?
- First, confirm whether document handover was completed when the member left.
- If document handover was completed, ownership of the original documents was already transferred to the recipient, so it does not return automatically after restoration.
- If the member needs access again, an administrator should assign the relevant permissions again.
- If no handover was completed before departure, the restored member can usually continue accessing content that remained under the original account.
How long after departure can a member still be restored?
- Open the Departed Members list and check whether the target member is still listed there.
- As long as the member remains in that list, an administrator can manually restore the account.
- If the member has already been removed from the list, the current entry can no longer restore that account directly.
What permission is required to restore a departed member?
- Sign in with an account that has management access and open the Admin Console.
- Confirm that the current account is a super admin or has been granted directory management permission.
- Without the required permission, you cannot view or complete the restore action.
