Last updated:July 17, 2026

When using Disable File Download, the most common questions focus on 4 areas: online editing, existing local copies, printing restrictions, and approval-based downloads.

FAQ

Can members still edit documents online after Disable File Download is turned on?

  1. Yes. Disable File Download mainly restricts saving the document to a local device.
  2. Members can still view and edit the document online and save changes to the cloud when the current policy allows it.
  3. If editing is further restricted in advanced settings, the active policy applies.

Can previously downloaded local copies still be opened after the feature is enabled?

  1. Yes. File copies that already exist on local devices are not directly changed by the new policy.
  2. After the policy takes effect, members cannot download new local copies.
  3. If your organization needs to reduce local retention, handle existing copies through internal management rules.

Does Disable File Download also affect printing?

  1. Not always. Download control and printing control can be configured separately.
  2. If only Disable File Download is turned on, whether members can still print depends on the current advanced settings.
  3. If you also want to limit printing, review the related switch in advanced settings.

Can members request a temporary file download?

  1. Yes. In advanced settings, controlled members can be allowed to request file downloads to local devices.
  2. Administrators can control the request scope through Download File Management and the approval flow settings.
  3. After approval, members can complete the download according to the organization’s rules.
