How to Use WPS Advanced Field Types on macOS

1. Open the Advanced Fields area

Entry path: Click + to add a field → open the Field Type drop-down list → find the Advanced Fields area

  1. Open the target data table in a multidimensional table.
  2. Click the Add Field button (+) on the toolbar.
  3. Open the Field Type drop-down menu.
  4. Find the Advanced Fields area in the list.
  5. Review the available advanced field types.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: You can see the Advanced Fields area and its field list.
  • Next action available: You can select any advanced field and continue creating it.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you are not in the table structure editing flow, you may only see data content instead of the field type list.
  • Environment note: You need permission to edit fields in the current table.

Entry path: Add Field → Field Type → Advanced Fields → Two-way Link

  1. Open the Advanced Fields area.
  2. Select the Two-way Link field type.
  3. Select the other table that you want to connect.
  4. Confirm the field name and display method.
  5. Save the settings and start linking records in both directions.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: A Two-way Link field is added to the current table.
  • Next action available: You can see the relationship from both the current table and the related table.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the target table structure is not reviewed first, the later field display may not match your expectation.

Entry path: Add Field → Field Type → Advanced Fields → One-way Link

  1. Open the Advanced Fields area.
  2. Select the One-way Link field type.
  3. Select the target table to reference.
  4. Save the field settings.
  5. Choose the target record in each record as needed.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: A One-way Link field is added to the current table.
  • Next action available: You can select records from another table in the current record.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Mixing up One-way Link and Two-way Link can lead to a different display than expected.

4. Add a Lookup field

Entry path: Add Field → Field Type → Advanced Fields → Lookup

  1. Make sure the table already has a usable link field.
  2. Open the Advanced Fields area and select Lookup.
  3. Select the source link field.
  4. Select the target field to pull.
  5. Save the settings and review the returned value.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The new field shows the specified content from the related table.
  • Next action available: You can continue filtering, summarizing, or displaying the returned result.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If a link field is not created first, Lookup cannot be configured correctly.

5. Add a Statistics field

Entry path: Add Field → Field Type → Advanced Fields → Statistics

  1. Open the Advanced Fields area.
  2. Select the Statistics field type.
  3. Specify the related data used for the summary.
  4. Select the summary method.
  5. Save and review the result.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The field shows a summarized value.
  • Next action available: You can continue analyzing or filtering data based on the result.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the summary source is not configured correctly, the result may be empty.

6. Add an Auto Number field

Entry path: Add Field → Field Type → Advanced Fields → Auto Number

  1. Open the Advanced Fields area.
  2. Select the Auto Number field type.
  3. Set the numbering rule.
  4. Save the field.
  5. Review the generated numbering result for records.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: Each record shows an automatically generated number.
  • Next action available: You can use the number for search, sorting, or external reference.

  • Common mistake: Changing numbering rules without checking how existing records are displayed can affect readability.

7. Add a Created By field

Entry path: Add Field → Field Type → Advanced Fields → Created By

  1. Open the Advanced Fields area.
  2. Select the Created By field type.
  3. Save the field settings.
  4. Add a new record and review the field value.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The record automatically shows the person who created it.
  • Next action available: You can filter by creator or trace record origin.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Manually editing a normal text field does not replace an automatic record field.

8. Add a Last Modified By field

Entry path: Add Field → Field Type → Advanced Fields → Last Modified By

  1. Open the Advanced Fields area.
  2. Select the Last Modified By field type.
  3. Save the field settings.
  4. Edit any record and review the updated field value.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The field automatically shows the person who last edited the record.
  • Next action available: You can combine it with time fields to track update responsibility.

  • Common mistake: If no actual record content is changed, the field value will not update.

9. Add a Created Time or Last Modified Time field

Entry path: Add Field → Field Type → Advanced Fields → Created Time / Last Modified Time

  1. Open the Advanced Fields area.
  2. Select Created Time or Last Modified Time.
  3. Save the field settings.
  4. Create or edit a record and review the time value.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The field automatically records the corresponding time information.

  • Common mistake: Mixing up Created Time and Last Modified Time can lead to inconsistent analysis.

10. Add an Automation field

Entry path: Add Field → Field Type → Advanced Fields → Automation

  1. Open the Advanced Fields area.
  2. Select the Automation field type.
  3. Set trigger conditions, such as field value changes or due reminders.
  4. Set actions, such as notifications or status updates.
  5. Save and test whether the rule runs as expected.

  • Common mistake: Trigger conditions that are too broad can cause too many automatic runs.
