About This Feature

Overview

Column Type helps you assign a consistent data type to an entire column in a smart table. After a type is applied, cells in that column follow the selected display and validation pattern. Available types include dropdown list, date, checkbox, progress, time, cell image, email, and URL. You can also set the starting row for the type or clear the type and return the column to plain text.

Core capabilities include:

  • Set a column type: Apply a suitable data type to the whole column at once.
  • Set the starting row: Control which row the column type starts from so header rows can stay unchanged.
  • Clear a column type: Remove the current type restriction while keeping existing data.

Capability SummaryLets you assign column-level types such as dropdown list, date, checkbox, progress, time, cell image, email, and URL, and also supports setting a starting row and clearing the type.Excel uses data validation to restrict cell input and supports list, date, time, text length, and custom rules.Google Sheets supports in-cell dropdowns and data validation rules, including dropdown values, range-based lists, and invalid data handling.Notion database properties support Select, Date, Checkbox, URL, Email, File, and Number or progress-style properties.Adobe Acrobat mainly works with PDF form fields such as list boxes and date fields rather than spreadsheet column typing.
WPS AdvantagesAdvantage: WPS brings multiple common column types into one column-level entry and also lets you define where the type starts, which is useful for structured table input.Compared with WPS: The official Excel page focuses on cell-level validation rules and does not present a unified starting-row setting for a column type.Compared with WPS: The official Google Sheets page focuses on dropdown and validation rules for cells, with a narrower column-level typing scope.Compared with WPS: Notion is oriented toward database property modeling rather than traditional spreadsheet cell entry.Compared with WPS: Acrobat is designed for PDF form creation and does not provide spreadsheet-style whole-column type management.

Overall Conclusion
If you want to standardize spreadsheet input by column, WPS Column Type is closer to a direct column-level workflow. Excel, Google Sheets, and Notion offer related capabilities, but their official guidance emphasizes data validation, dropdown rules, or database properties instead. Adobe Acrobat is more suitable for PDF form scenarios.
