How-to Guide
1. Insert a symbol
Entry point: Insert > Symbol
- Select the cell where you want to insert a symbol.
- Click the Insert menu at the top.
- Click Symbol.
- In the symbol panel, choose the symbol you need, and select the font, Unicode (hexadecimal), or ASCII (decimal) as needed.
- Click Insert.
Success Criteria
- The selected symbol appears in the target cell.
- You can continue typing, copying, or saving the cell content.
Tips While Using
- Different fonts may support different symbol ranges.
- If you cannot find the target character, try switching the font or code type.
2. Quickly insert recent or custom symbols
Entry point: Insert > Symbol drop-down menu
- Select the cell where you want to insert a symbol.
- Click the Symbol drop-down button in the Insert menu.
- Click the target symbol in Recently Used Symbols or Custom Symbols.
- If you need more items, open the full symbol collection or click More.
- If you need additional characters, click Other Symbols to continue browsing.
Success Criteria
- The selected symbol is inserted directly into the current cell.
- Common symbols in the drop-down menu can be reused quickly.
Tips While Using
- The recently used list changes based on actual usage.
- Custom symbols are useful for repeated entry scenarios.
3. Insert special characters
Entry point: Insert > Symbol > Special Characters
- Click the Symbol button.
- Switch to the Special Characters tab.
- Select the special character you need, such as the copyright or registered trademark symbol.
- Click Insert.
Success Criteria
- The selected special character appears in the target cell.
- You can continue editing and saving the cell content.
Tips While Using
- Some characters may display slightly differently across systems or fonts.
- If the display looks incorrect, switch to a font that supports the character.
4. Manage the custom symbol bar
Entry point: Insert > Symbol > Symbol Bar
- Click Symbol in the Insert menu.
- In Symbol or Special Characters, select a frequently used character.
- Click Insert to Symbol Bar.
- In the symbol bar, use options such as Assign Shortcut Key, Move Up/Down, or Delete for the target symbol.
- If needed, click Reset Symbol Bar to restore the default state.
Success Criteria
- Frequently used symbols are added to the symbol bar and can be called quickly.
- The symbol order, shortcut key, or deletion result takes effect as configured.
Tips While Using
- If a shortcut key does not work, check whether it conflicts with macOS or another app.
- After resetting the symbol bar, custom content returns to the default state.
