1. Apply strikethrough from the ribbon

Feature path: Home tab → Strikethrough button

  1. Select the cell where you want to add strikethrough, or double-click the cell and select part of the text inside it.
  2. Click the Strikethrough button in the Font group on the Home tab.
  3. Check whether a horizontal line appears through the selected text.
  4. To remove the effect, click Strikethrough again.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: A line appears through the middle of the selected text.
  • Next action available: You can keep typing, save the file, or apply other font formatting.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If no text is selected first, the formatting may not apply to the intended content.

2. Apply strikethrough from the Format Cells dialog

Feature path: Home tab → Font settings arrow → Strikethrough

  1. Select the target cell or the text inside the cell.
  2. Click the font settings arrow on the Home tab.
  3. In the dialog box, open the font-related settings area.
  4. Select the Strikethrough checkbox and click OK.

3. Apply strikethrough from the right-click menu
