How-to Guide
1. Set a Tab Color from the Right-Click Menu
Entry path: Right-click worksheet tab → Worksheet Tab → Tab Color
- Right-click the worksheet tab that you want to format.
- Select Worksheet Tab.
- Click Tab Color.
- Select the color you want from the color panel.
Success Criteria
- The selected worksheet tab shows the color you chose.
- The tab color remains visible after you switch to another worksheet.
Tips While Using
- Tab color is only for visual identification and does not change worksheet data.
- If the tab is currently selected, the color may look slightly different from the unselected state.
2. Set a Tab Color from the Home Tab
Entry path: Home → Worksheet → Tab Color
- Click the Home tab.
- Open the Worksheet menu.
- Click Tab Color.
- Select the color you want from the color panel.
Success Criteria
- The current worksheet tab shows the new color.
- You can continue editing the worksheet and the color remains applied.
Tips While Using
- Before using the Home tab path, make sure the target worksheet is active.
- In large workbooks, using a consistent color rule makes sheets easier to identify later.
3. Clear a Tab Color from the Right-Click Menu
Entry path: Right-click worksheet tab → Worksheet Tab → Tab Color → No Fill Color
- Right-click the worksheet tab that already has a color.
- Select Worksheet Tab.
- Click Tab Color.
- Click No Fill Color.
Success Criteria
- The worksheet tab returns to its default display state.
- The previous color marker is removed.
Tips While Using
- Clearing the tab color removes only the color marker and does not delete the worksheet.
- If you want to reorganize the workbook later, you can apply a new tab color again.
4. Clear a Tab Color from the Home Tab
Entry path: Home → Worksheet → Tab Color → No Fill Color
- Click the Home tab.
- Open the Worksheet menu.
- Click Tab Color.
- Click No Fill Color.
Success Criteria
- The current worksheet tab no longer shows a custom color.
- Other worksheet tab colors in the workbook stay unchanged.
Tips While Using
- Before clearing the color, confirm that the current worksheet is the correct target.
- If you want to keep a classification system, record your color rules before removing them.
