1. Protect a worksheet from the Review tab

Entry: Review → Protect Worksheet

  1. Open the worksheet that you want to protect.
  2. Click the Review tab at the top of the window.
  3. Click Protect Worksheet.
  4. Enter a protection password if needed.
  5. Select the actions that users are still allowed to perform.
  6. Click OK to finish.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The current worksheet enters a protected state.
  • What you can do next: Editing actions that are not allowed will be restricted.
  • No side effects: Other worksheets keep their current protection status.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the wrong worksheet is active, protection may be applied to a different sheet than intended.
  • Password note: If you set a password, you will need the same password later to remove protection.

2. Protect a worksheet from the sheet tab shortcut menu

Entry: Right-click sheet tab → Protect Worksheet

  1. Find the sheet tab for the worksheet that you want to protect.
  2. Right-click the sheet tab.
  3. Select Protect Worksheet.
  4. Enter a protection password if needed.
  5. Select the actions that users are still allowed to perform.
  6. Click OK to finish.

  • What you can do next: You can still switch to other worksheets to view content.

3. Remove worksheet protection from the Review tab

Entry: Review → Unprotect Worksheet

  1. Select the protected worksheet.

  3. Click Unprotect Worksheet.

  5. Click OK to finish.
