1. Set font color from the ribbon
Entry: Home tab → drop-down arrow next to Font Color
- Select the cell whose text color you want to change, or select part of the text inside a cell.
- Click the Font Color button on the Home tab.
- To apply the most recently used color directly, click the main icon.
- To choose another color, click the drop-down arrow next to the icon to open the color panel.
- Select a preset color. If you need a more specific color, click More Colors to customize it.
Success Criteria
- The selected text color changes.
- The recently used color is updated when you open the color panel again.
- The spreadsheet remains editable and can still be saved.
Tips While Using
- If you want to change only part of the text, enter cell editing mode first and then select the target text.
- Font color and cell fill color are different settings.
2. Set font color from the right-click Format Cells dialog
Entry: Right-click menu → Format Cells → Font → Color
- Select the target cell.
- Right-click the selection and choose Format Cells.
- In the dialog box, switch to the Font tab.
- Open the Color drop-down list and choose the font color you want.
- If needed, continue to More Colors for custom selection.
- Click OK to apply the setting.
Success Criteria
- The text color in the target cell updates to the selected color.
- The dialog closes and the spreadsheet formatting remains in place.
- You can continue adjusting other font or border settings if needed.
Tips While Using
- This method is useful when you want to review several font settings together.

3. Set font color from the Home tab font settings entry
Entry: Home tab → font settings arrow icon → Font → Color
- Select the cell whose text color you want to change, or select part of the text inside a cell.
- On the Home tab, click the font settings arrow icon to open the font settings window.
- Switch to the Font tab.
- Open the Color drop-down list and choose the target color.
- If you need a wider range of colors, continue to More Colors.
- Click OK to apply the change.
Success Criteria
- The text color changes to the selected color.
- The font settings window closes and the spreadsheet stays in the current editing state.
- You can continue adjusting font size, style, and other font properties.
