How-to Guide

1. Apply a Cell Fill Color

Entry path: Tools > Home > Fill Color

Select one or more cells that need a background color.
Tap Tools at the bottom of the screen.
Open the Home tab.
Choose the target color in the Fill Color panel.

Success Criteria

Visual result: The selected cells show the new background color.
Next action available: You can keep typing, save the file, or continue adjusting other formatting.

Tips While Using

Common mistake: If no cell is selected first, the color will not be applied to the intended area.
Environment note: You need to be in an editable spreadsheet view.

2. Open More Fill Colors

Entry path: Tools > Home > Fill Color > More Colors

Select the cells whose color you want to adjust.
Tap Tools and open the Home tab.
Open the Fill Color panel.
Tap ... to view more fill colors.
Select the color you want to apply.

Success Criteria

Visual result: The color panel shows more available color choices.
Next action available: The selected color can be applied to the current cells immediately.

Tips While Using

Common mistake: If you are not inside the Fill Color panel, the more-colors entry may be easy to miss.

3. Clear a Cell Fill Color

Entry path: Tools > Home > Fill Color

Select the cells that already have a background color.
Tap Tools and open the Home tab.
Open the Fill Color panel.
Select No Fill to remove the cell background color.

Success Criteria

Visual result: The cells return to the default background display.
Next action available: You can apply another fill color or continue editing the sheet.

Tips While Using

Common mistake: Applying white fill is not the same as clearing fill. Use No Fill when you want to remove the background color.
