How-to Guide
1. Add cell borders
Feature entry: Home tab → All Borders drop-down menu
- Select the cell or cell range where you want to add borders.
- Click the All Borders drop-down menu on the Home tab.
- Select a preset border style such as All Borders or Outside Borders.
- Check the selected range and confirm that the border has been applied.
Success Criteria
- The selected range shows the border lines you chose.
- Cell content stays unchanged and can still be edited or saved.
Tips While Using
- Select the range first so the border result is applied to the correct area.
- If default gridlines affect what you see, check the result again after comparing the display carefully.
2. Customize border styles
Feature entry: Home tab → All Borders drop-down menu → More Borders
- Select the cells or range that you want to format.
- Open the All Borders drop-down menu.
- Click More Borders.
- In the border settings window, choose the line style, color, and border position.
- Click OK to apply the settings.
Success Criteria
- The selected range shows the updated line style or color.
- The border position matches the settings you selected.
Tips While Using
- Decide first whether you need outside borders, inside borders, or diagonal lines.
- If you want to open cell formatting quickly, you can use Ctrl+1 to open the related settings window.
3. Draw borders
Feature entry: Home tab → Border drop-down menu → Draw Border
- Open the border drop-down menu.
- Select Draw Border or a related drawing option.
- When the pointer changes to drawing mode, drag or click along the edge of the target cells.
- Continue drawing in other areas as needed.
- Press Esc to exit drawing mode.
Success Criteria
- Border lines appear where you drew them.
- After you exit drawing mode, normal worksheet editing is available again.
Tips While Using
- Set the line color and line style before drawing if needed.
- Manual drawing is useful for complex headers or irregular areas.
4. Clear borders or use more related capabilities
Feature entry: Home tab → Border drop-down menu → No Border or a related clear option
- Select the cells or range where you want to remove borders.
- Open the border drop-down menu.
- Select No Border, or use a related border-clearing option if available.
- If you also want to use more account-related office capabilities, sign in and check the benefits available to your account.
Success Criteria
- Existing borders are removed from the selected range.
- Worksheet content remains in place and borders can be added again later.
Tips While Using
- Clearing borders does not delete cell content.
- Membership-related capabilities depend on what is shown for the current account.
