1. Open the Number Format entry

Entry point: Open a spreadsheet file → Edit at the lower left → Tools tab → Home → Number Format

  1. Open a WPS spreadsheet file.
  2. Tap Edit in the lower-left corner to enter editing mode.
  3. Select the cell or cell range that you want to format.
  4. Tap the Tools tab.
  5. Switch to Home.
  6. Tap Number Format to open the settings page.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: The Number Format settings page opens.
  • Next actions: You can continue switching categories and applying formats.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you do not select cells first, the format may not apply to the intended range.
  • Environment limits: You need to enter editing mode before making changes.

2. Switch common number format categories

Entry point: Number Format settings page → current category name

  1. On the Number Format settings page, tap the current category name, such as General.
  2. Review the available categories in the menu.
  3. Select General, Number, Currency, Percentage, Date, or another category as needed.
  4. Tap the target category to apply it to the selected range.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: The display style of the selected cells changes.
  • Next actions: You can switch to another category and adjust again.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If the original content is stored as text, changing the number format may not produce an obvious visual change.

3. Apply date, percentage, or similar display formats

Entry point: Number Format settings page → category list

  1. Select the cell range that contains dates, ratios, or amount values.
  2. Open the Number Format settings page.
  3. Choose Date, Percentage, or another format from the category list.
  4. Return to the sheet and check whether the display result matches your needs.
  5. If needed, reopen Number Format and switch to another category.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: Dates appear in a date style, ratios appear as percentages, and amounts appear in the selected number style.
  • Next actions: You can continue editing, saving, or sharing the file.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If a date appears as a number, the cell is usually still using General or Number format.
  • Environment limits: Date and currency display can also be affected by the content already stored in the document.

4. View and use custom format codes

Entry point: Number Format settings page → Custom

  1. Select the cell range that needs a special display style.
  2. Open the Number Format settings page.
  3. Tap Custom.
  4. Review the available preset code formats.
  5. Select the code format you want and apply it to the selected range.
