How-to Guide
1. Merge Cells from the Home Option
Entry path: Tools → Home → Merge Cells
- Open your WPS spreadsheet file and tap the Edit button in the lower-left corner to enter editing mode.
- Drag the selection handles on the cell borders to select the adjacent cells you want to merge.
- Tap Tools and switch to the Home option.
- Scroll to find and tap Merge Cells.
- The selected cells are merged into one cell, and only the value in the upper-left cell is kept.
- To cancel the merge, tap Merge Cells again.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the selected area appears as one merged cell.
- Next action available: you can continue typing, change formatting, or unmerge again.
- No side effect: content outside the selected area is not affected.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if the selected cells are not adjacent, the merge may not work as expected.
- Data impact: after merging, only the upper-left cell content is kept and other cell content is overwritten.
- Environment note: enter editing mode before starting the action.
2. Merge Cells from the Floating Toolbar
Entry path: Floating toolbar → Merge
- Select the cell range you want to merge in the spreadsheet.
- Tap to bring up the floating editing toolbar.
- Find and tap Merge on the toolbar.
- The selected cells are merged into one cell, and only the value in the upper-left cell is kept.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: multiple adjacent cells become one cell.
- Next action available: you can continue editing the merged content or adjust formatting.
- No side effect: unselected areas stay unchanged.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if you do not select the target range first, the floating toolbar action may not apply as expected.
- Data impact: check whether non-upper-left cells contain important content before merging.
3. Split a Merged Cell from the Floating Toolbar
Entry path: Floating toolbar → Split
- Select the merged cell.
- Tap to bring up the floating editing toolbar.
- Find and tap Split on the toolbar.
- The merged cell returns to its original structure.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the merged area returns to multiple separate cells.
- Next action available: you can enter content into the split cells individually.
- No side effect: the rest of the spreadsheet structure stays unchanged.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if the selected cell is not already merged, the result may not match your expectation.
- Data impact: splitting restores the structure, but it does not automatically restore content that was overwritten during the merge.
