  2. Right-click the selected row header or column header.
  3. Choose the action you need, such as insert a row above, insert a row below, insert a column to the left, insert a column to the right, delete the row, or delete the column.
  4. To delete in batches, select multiple rows or columns first and then run the delete command.

Success Criteria

  • On-screen result: New rows or columns appear in the target position, or the selected rows or columns are removed.
  • What you can do next: You can continue entering data, adjusting formatting, or saving the file.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you select only cell content instead of the full row or full column, you may not see the expected command.
  • Environment note: Check the selection carefully before deleting so you do not remove needed data by mistake.

2. Use the ribbon command

Entry path: Insert tab → Rows & Columns

  1. Click the position you want to work with in the worksheet so the insertion or deletion point is clear.
  2. Open the Insert tab.
  3. Click Rows & Columns to open the related menu.
  4. Choose insert row above, insert row below, insert column left, insert column right, delete row, or delete column.

Success Criteria

  • On-screen result: The worksheet structure updates according to the command you selected.
  • What you can do next: You can continue editing nearby data and save the result.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not position the target row or column first, the insertion point may not match your expectation.
  • Environment note: After insertion, the original position and following data shift automatically, so review the layout first.
