How-to Guide

1. Freeze Top Row

Feature path: View tab → Freeze Panes → Freeze Top Row

  1. Open the WPS spreadsheet you want to review.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Click Freeze Panes.
  4. Select Freeze Top Row.
  5. Scroll down and confirm that the top row stays visible.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The top row remains at the top of the window while you scroll.
  • What you can do next: You can continue reviewing lower rows while keeping the header visible.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you are not in the spreadsheet editing view, you may not see the Freeze Panes entry.
  • Environment note: Freezing changes the worksheet view only and does not modify cell content.

2. Freeze First Column

Feature path: View tab → Freeze Panes → Freeze First Column

  1. Open the target worksheet.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Click Freeze Panes.
  4. Select Freeze First Column.
  5. Scroll to the right and confirm that the first column stays visible.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The first column remains visible on the left while you scroll horizontally.
  • What you can do next: You can continue reviewing data on the right while keeping the key identifier column visible.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the worksheet has only a few columns, the freeze effect may be hard to notice.
  • Environment note: Freezing affects display only and does not lock editing permissions.

3. Freeze to Active Cell

Feature path: View tab → Freeze Panes → Freeze to Active Cell

  1. In the worksheet, select the cell below or to the right of the area you want to keep visible. For example, select A4 to keep the first 3 rows visible.
  2. Click Freeze Panes on the View tab.
  3. Select Freeze to Active Cell.
  4. If needed, use the related menu options to freeze to a specific row or column.
  5. Scroll through the worksheet and confirm that the rows above and columns to the left of the active cell remain visible.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The area above and to the left of the active cell stays fixed.
  • What you can do next: You can review more worksheet content while keeping the title area visible.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Selecting the wrong cell leads to an unexpected freeze range.
  • Environment note: The freeze range is based on the current selected position.

4. Unfreeze Panes

Feature path: View tab → Freeze Panes → Unfreeze Panes

  1. Open the worksheet that already has frozen panes.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Click Freeze Panes.
  4. Select Unfreeze Panes.
  5. Scroll through the worksheet and confirm that rows and columns move normally again.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The fixed area disappears and the worksheet returns to normal scrolling.
  • What you can do next: You can set a new freeze range if needed.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If no panes are currently frozen, the interface may not show an obvious change.
