1. Freeze Top Row
Feature path: View → Freeze Panes → Freeze Top Row
- Open the spreadsheet you want to review.
- Click the View tab.
- Click Freeze Panes.
- Select Freeze Top Row.
- Scroll down the worksheet and confirm that the top row stays visible.

Tips While Using
- Freeze changes only the worksheet view and does not modify data.

2. Freeze First Column
Feature path: View → Freeze Panes → Freeze First Column
- Open the target worksheet.
- Click the View tab.
- Click Freeze Panes.
- Select Freeze First Column.
- Scroll to the right and confirm that the first column stays visible.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The first column remains visible on the left during horizontal scrolling.
- What you can do next: You can continue checking later columns without losing the key label column.
Tips While Using
- This is useful for keeping IDs, names, or project labels visible.
3. Freeze to Active Cell
Feature path: View → Freeze Panes → Freeze to Active Cell
- Select the cell that marks the position you want to use.
- For example, to freeze the first 3 rows, select A4. To keep both upper rows and left columns visible, select the cell at the needed intersection.
- Click View and then Freeze Panes.
- Select Freeze to Active Cell, or choose Freeze to Row X or Freeze to Column X when needed.
- Scroll through the worksheet and check whether the upper area, left area, or both now stay visible.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The rows above, columns to the left, or both remain visible based on the selected cell.
- What you can do next: You can continue browsing the unfrozen area of the worksheet.
Tips While Using
- The frozen range is based on the currently selected cell.
- If the result is not what you expected, select the correct cell and try again.
4. Unfreeze Panes
Feature path: View → Freeze Panes → Unfreeze Panes
- Open a worksheet that already has frozen panes.
- Click Freeze Panes.
- Select Unfreeze Panes.
- Scroll through the worksheet and confirm that all areas move normally again.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: Previously fixed rows or columns are no longer locked in place.
- What you can do next: You can scroll freely across the entire worksheet again.
Tips While Using
- After unfreezing, you can apply a different freeze setup if needed.
