How-to Guide
1. Use Drag to Fill
Feature entry: Select a cell, then drag the fill handle in the lower-right corner of the cell.
- Enter data or a formula in the starting cell.
- Select the cell and move the pointer to the lower-right corner.
- When the pointer changes to a cross-shaped fill handle, hold the left mouse button and drag downward or across.
- Release the mouse. WPS fills the target area based on the content type: numbers can continue in sequence, dates can extend, and formulas adjust relative references automatically.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The target area shows the filled content.
- Next action available: You can edit the result further or open Auto Fill Options to change the fill method.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you enter only one number, WPS may copy the same value instead of creating a full series. Enter two patterned starting values first when needed.
- Environment note: In collaborative spreadsheets, keep the network connection stable if other members need to see the result promptly.
2. Set Series Fill Options
Feature entry: After dragging the fill handle, click the quick menu button at the lower-right corner of the filled area.
- Complete a drag-to-fill action first.
- Click the quick menu button at the lower-right corner of the filled area.
- Open the Auto Fill Options-related choices in the menu.
- Select options such as Copy Cells or Fill Formatting Only to adjust the current result.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The filled area updates according to the selected option.
- Next action available: You can drag again or switch to another fill option.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you do not notice the quick menu after dragging, it may seem like only the default fill result is available.
- Environment note: Available fill choices can vary by data type in the current worksheet.
