How-to Guide
1. Turn on Fill
Entry point: Tools → Home → Fill, or select a cell range and use Fill from the floating toolbar.
- Select the cell range that you want to fill, and make sure the source data is above or next to the target area.
- Tap Tools, then tap Home.
- Find and tap Fill.
- For a faster method, tap the target cell range first and then tap Fill from the floating toolbar.
- Tap another area of the sheet to exit Fill mode.
Success Criteria
- UI state: Fill-related directional or drag options appear on the screen.
- Next actions: You can continue with directional fill, Copy Fill, or Series Fill.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If you do not select the target range first, the fill range may not match your expectation.
- Environment limits: You need to work in an editable spreadsheet file.
2. Use Directional Fill
Entry point: After opening Fill, choose a direction, or drag the arrow that appears on the right or below the source cell.
- Turn on Fill first.
- Choose Fill Down, Fill Right, Fill Up, or Fill Left as needed.
- You can also drag the arrow that appears on the right or below the source cell.
- Release and check whether the target area has been filled in the selected direction.
- Tap another area of the sheet to exit Fill mode.
Success Criteria
- UI state: Cells in the selected direction show the fill result.
- Next actions: You can adjust the range or switch to Copy Fill or Series Fill.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If the target area already contains data, Fill will overwrite it.
- Environment limits: In a filtered sheet, Fill applies only to visible cells.
3. Use Copy Fill
Entry point: After dragging to fill, tap Copy Fill at the top of the fill action area.
- Complete one drag fill action first.
- Find the Copy Fill button at the top of the fill action area.
- Tap Copy Fill.
- Check whether the target area now matches the source cell content instead of continuing a series.
Success Criteria
- UI state: The target area matches the source content.
- Next actions: You can continue copying to other areas or choose another fill method.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If you want to continue a pattern instead of copying the same value, use Series Fill.
4. Use Series Fill
Entry point: After dragging to fill, tap Series Fill at the top of the fill action area.
- Complete one drag fill action first.
- Find the Series Fill button at the top of the fill action area.
- Tap Series Fill.
- Check whether the app has detected the cell pattern and continued the series.
Success Criteria
- UI state: The target area extends the number or content pattern.
- Next actions: You can expand the fill range further or edit the source data and fill again.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If the source pattern is unclear, the series result may differ from what you expect.
- Environment limits: It is helpful to confirm that the source cells contain a recognizable pattern before using this option.
