1. Show or hide the ruler

Feature entry: View tab → Ruler

  1. Open the document you want to edit in WPS Writer.
  2. Click the View tab at the top of the window.
  3. Click Ruler.
  4. The ruler appears above the editing area. Click the same option again to hide it.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: A horizontal ruler appears above the editing area or is hidden.
  • You can continue with: Dragging indent markers or setting tab stops on the ruler.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you are not in the WPS Writer document editing view, you may not see the related entry.

2. Use the ruler to set indents

Feature entry: horizontal ruler → indent markers

  1. Make sure the ruler is already visible.
  2. Select the paragraph you want to adjust.
  3. Find the indent markers on the horizontal ruler.
  4. Drag the upper triangle to set the first-line indent.
  5. Drag the lower rectangle to set the left indent.
  6. Drag the right-side triangle to set the right indent.
  7. Release the mouse to apply the change.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The selected paragraph changes its first-line, left, or right position.
  • You can continue with: Typing, saving, or refining the paragraph format further.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the paragraph is not selected first, the result may not match what you expect.

3. Use the ruler to set tab stops

Feature entry: horizontal ruler → tab type button → Set Tab Stops

  1. Turn on the ruler first.
  2. Click the tab type button on the left side of the ruler.
  3. Select Set Tab Stops.
  4. Change the default tab-stop character if needed, or add a custom tab stop.
  5. Click OK to apply the setting.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: Text can align to the tab-stop positions you set.
  • You can continue with: Pressing the Tab key to move text to the configured position.
