1. Add Numbering

Entry point: Home tab → Numbering

  1. Select the paragraphs where you want to add numbering.
  2. On the Home tab, click the Numbering button.
  3. The paragraphs will use the default numeric numbering format.
  4. Press Enter to continue the numbering in the next paragraph.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: Continuous numeric markers appear before the selected paragraphs.
  • Next actions: You can keep typing the next item and the numbering continues automatically.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you do not select the target paragraphs first, numbering may start only from the current cursor position.

2. Choose a Numbering Style

Entry point: Home tab → Drop-down arrow next to Numbering

  1. Click the drop-down arrow next to the Numbering button.
  2. Browse the available numbering styles in the menu.
  3. Select the style you want and apply it to the current paragraph.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: The numbering format before the paragraph changes.
  • Next actions: New paragraphs continue with the current numbering style.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If the target paragraph is not selected, the style may not apply to the expected content.

3. Continue Numbering

Entry point: Right-click existing numbering → Continue Numbering

  1. Right-click the content that needs to continue the numbering sequence.
  2. Select Continue Numbering from the shortcut menu.
  3. The current paragraph continues the previous numbering order.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: The current paragraph number stays continuous with the earlier list.
  • Next actions: Later paragraphs can continue with the updated sequence.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you right-click outside the target numbered paragraph, the action may not apply to the correct content.
