How-to Index

How-to Guide

1. Insert an endnote

Entry path: Tools → Insert → Endnote

  1. Open the Writer document that you want to edit.
  2. Tap the position where you want to insert the endnote.
  3. Tap Tools at the bottom.
  4. Select the Insert tab.
  5. Tap Endnote.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: an endnote reference number appears at the current position in the main text.
  • Next action available: a matching endnote input area appears at the end of the document.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: if the cursor is not placed first, the endnote may be inserted in an unexpected position.
  • Environment note: this action should be done in an editable Writer document.

2. Enter and finish endnote content

Entry path: the endnote area at the end of the document after insertion

  1. Type your note in the endnote input area created at the end of the document.
  2. Check that the endnote number matches the reference position in the main text.
  3. After entering the content, tap the main document area.
  4. Continue editing the main text.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: the endnote content is saved under the matching number at the end of the document.
  • Next action available: you can return to the main text and continue editing, revising, or inserting another endnote.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: switching away before finishing the note can interrupt your editing flow.
  • Environment note: in long documents, it helps to complete the note right after insertion so the numbering is easier to verify.

3. Check automatic endnote numbering updates

Entry path: edit a document that already contains multiple endnotes

  1. Add a new endnote in a document that already has endnotes, or remove an existing endnote.
  2. Return to the main text and review the endnote reference order.
  3. Scroll to the end of the document and review the endnote list order.
  4. Confirm that the numbering has updated automatically after the change.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: the reference numbers in the main text still match the endnote numbers at the end of the document.
  • Next action available: you can continue adding, removing, or editing other endnotes.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: manually typed plain numbers do not replace system-generated endnote numbering.
  • Environment note: automatic renumbering applies to notes inserted with the endnote feature.
