1. Apply Pattern Fill

Entry: Drawing Tools tab → Shape Styles area → Shape Fill

  1. Select the shape that you want to fill with a pattern.
  2. Click the Drawing Tools tab at the top of the window.
  3. Click Shape Fill to open the menu.
  4. Select Pattern in the menu.
  5. Click the pattern you want to apply it to the current shape.
  6. If you want to continue adjusting the effect, click More Settings to open the related pane.

Success Criteria

  • The inside of the shape shows the selected pattern.
  • When you select the shape again, you can continue editing the fill style.

Tips While Using

  • Select the shape before opening the fill menu.
  • If the slide contains multiple shapes, confirm the current selection before applying the pattern.

2. Customize Pattern Fill

Entry: Drawing Tools tab → Shape Fill → More Settings → Object Properties → Fill

  1. Select the shape that you want to format.
  2. Click the Drawing Tools tab.
  3. Open the Shape Fill drop-down menu and click More Settings.
  4. In the Object Properties pane on the right, find the Fill and Line area.
  5. Select Pattern Fill.
  6. Set the Foreground and Background colors.
  7. Review the live preview and keep the current settings.

Success Criteria

  • The shape displays a pattern fill.
  • Changes to the foreground and background colors are reflected in the pattern effect.

Tips While Using

  • The foreground and background color combination directly affects pattern visibility.
  • If the pattern is hard to see, try using colors with stronger contrast.

3. Set a Pattern from the Home Tab

Entry: Home tab → Shape area → Shape Fill

  1. Select the shape that you want to fill with a pattern.
  2. Click the Home tab at the top.
  3. Click Shape Fill.
  4. Select Pattern.
  5. Click the pattern style you want to finish the setup.

Success Criteria

  • You can apply a pattern to the current shape without switching to another entry point.
  • The shape appearance updates immediately.

  • If the related button is not visible, first confirm that a shape is selected.

4. Set a Pattern from the Right-Click Menu

Entry: Shape right-click menu → Format Object

  1. Select the shape that you want to format.
  2. Right-click the shape.
  3. Select Format Object.
  4. In the Object Properties sidebar on the right, find the fill settings.
  5. Select pattern fill and adjust the style or colors.

Success Criteria

  • The Object Properties pane opens on the right.
  • You can continue editing pattern and color settings in the same pane.

Tips While Using

  • The right-click menu is useful when you want to adjust the current object directly in the editing area.

5. Set a Pattern from the Side Task Pane

Entry: Side Task Pane → Properties

  1. Select the shape that you want to fill with a pattern.
  2. Click Properties on the side.
  3. In the Object Properties sidebar, find the fill settings.
  4. Select a pattern fill style.
  5. Adjust the foreground and background colors as needed.

Success Criteria

  • The side properties pane remains open.
  • When you switch patterns or colors, the shape effect updates at the same time.

Tips While Using

  • This method works well when you need to adjust the fill style of multiple shapes continuously.
