Why does a cross-reference show code instead of content?
- Select the cross-reference that is displaying unexpectedly.
- Right-click it and choose Toggle Field Codes, or press Shift+Fn+F9.
- After switching back to the field result, check whether the display is normal.
Why is the page number in my cross-reference incorrect?
- Confirm whether the referenced content has moved to a different location.
- Right-click the reference and choose Update Field, or select the full document and press Fn+F9.
- Check the page number again after the update finishes.
Why does the reference stop working after I delete the referenced content?
- Check whether the original heading, caption, bookmark, or footnote has been deleted.
- If the target item no longer exists, create a new reference target.
- Insert the cross-reference again, or update the existing field and review the result.
