1. Open the XML Mapping Pane

Feature entry: Developer Tools → XML Mapping Pane

1. Open a WPS Writer document.
2. Click the Developer Tools tab on the top menu bar.
3. In the XML group, click XML Mapping Pane.
4. Check whether the XML Mapping Pane appears on the right side of the window.

Success Criteria

• The XML Mapping Pane appears on the right side.
• You can see the XML structure area or related element list.
• You can continue with content control insertion and mapping.

Tips While Using

• If the pane is empty, attach an XML schema first.
• This feature is available on Windows.

2. Insert a content control for mapping

Feature entry: XML Mapping Pane right-click menu → Insert Content Control

1. Click the place in the document where you want the mapped content to appear.
2. In the XML Mapping Pane, find the target XML element.
3. Right-click the element.
4. Select Insert Content Control.
5. Confirm that the control has been inserted into the document.

Success Criteria

• A content control appears in the document as the mapping container.
• The selected position is ready for element binding.
• You can continue to the mapping step.

Tips While Using

• Make sure the cursor is in the correct editing area before inserting the control.
• Design Mode can make labels easier to review.

3. Map an XML element to the selected content control

Feature entry: XML Mapping Pane right-click menu → Map to Selected Content Control

1. In the document, select the content control you inserted earlier.
2. In the XML Mapping Pane, find the XML element you want to bind.
3. Right-click the element.
4. Select Map to Selected Content Control.
5. Check whether the relationship between the control and the element has been created.

Success Criteria

• The selected content control is mapped to the target XML element.
• The structured content position in the document is established.
• You can locate the element later from the pane.

Tips While Using

• Insert and select the content control before mapping.
• If nothing happens, check whether the document is read-only or restricted.
• Make sure the XML schema has already been attached.

4. Locate and review a mapped element

Feature entry: Element list in the XML structure pane

1. Open the XML structure pane or XML Mapping Pane.
2. Find the name of the mapped element in the pane.
3. Click the element.
4. Check whether the document jumps to the corresponding location.
5. Review the content control and display state at that location.

Success Criteria

• Clicking the element moves the document to the related content area.
• You can quickly confirm the mapped position and content state.
• The result is easier to review and adjust.

Tips While Using

• If the location does not open, confirm that the element has already been mapped.
• A gray display for mapped content is usually normal.
