How-to Guide

1. Generate a Local Shortcut

Entry path: File Operations button → Open in Other Ways → Create Local Shortcut

  1. Open the target collaborative document.
  2. Click the File Operations button in the upper-left corner.
  3. Select Open in Other Ways from the menu.
  4. Click Create Local Shortcut.
  5. WPS downloads the shortcut to your local Downloads path.
  6. Move or copy the shortcut to another local path if needed.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: A shortcut for the document appears in the local Downloads path.
  • What you can do next: You can open the original collaborative document from the shortcut or move the shortcut to another local location.
  • No side effect: The original document stays in its original location and is not duplicated as a full local file.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the target collaborative document is not open first, you may not see the related entry.
  • Environment note: An internet connection is needed when the shortcut is first generated and downloaded.
  • File relationship: Deleting the shortcut does not affect the original document. If the original document is deleted or moved, the shortcut will stop working.
