1. Create a Parent Record field

Entry point: Click the + button on the right side of the table header, then choose Parent Record.

  1. Open the multidimensional table that you want to edit.
  2. Click the + button on the right side of the table header.
  3. Select Parent Record from the field type list.
  4. Enter a field name and click OK.
  5. After the field is created, child records will show their related parent content in this field.

Success Criteria

  • A new Parent Record field column appears in the table.
  • Child record rows can display their related parent content.

Tips While Using

  • This field is mainly used to show the parent information of child records.
  • You need edit permission for the table to create a new field.

2. View parent content in a child record

Entry point: Open the existing Parent Record field column in the table.

  1. Locate the Parent Record field that has already been created.
  2. Browse records that already have a parent-child hierarchy.
  3. Check the Parent Record field in a child record row.
  4. Use the displayed value to confirm which parent record the child belongs to.

Success Criteria

  • You can see the related parent content directly in a child record row.
  • You can confirm hierarchy without switching to another record.

Tips While Using

  • Only child records show related parent content in this field.
  • If a record has no parent, the field may stay blank.

3. Understand hierarchy changes after deleting a parent record

Entry point: Use the record action menu or the delete command for the selected record.

  1. Select the parent record that you want to delete.
  2. Run the delete action.
  3. Confirm that only the records you actually selected are included.
  4. After deletion, review the child records that were not selected.
  5. Confirm that those child records remain in the table and are promoted to the same level as independent records.

Success Criteria

  • The selected parent record is deleted.
  • Unselected child records remain in the table.
  • Former child records are promoted to the same level as independent records.

Tips While Using

  • Check the selection range before deleting records.
  • Deleting a parent record does not automatically delete unselected child records.

4. Use parent-child records with permissions or on mobile

Entry point: Open the multidimensional table record view or the mobile record list.

  1. Open a multidimensional table that contains parent-child hierarchy data.
  2. Review the hierarchy display for the records you are allowed to access.
  3. On mobile, check how child records are displayed.
  4. Add child records or drag child records when basic mobile actions are available.
  5. Switch to Mac or PC if you need more advanced hierarchy management.

Success Criteria

  • Records within your permission scope can be viewed normally.
  • Mobile supports basic display and some child-record actions.

Tips While Using

  • Records without permission cannot be viewed.
  • For more complex hierarchy adjustments, use the desktop app.
