1. Edit Chart Elements

Entry: Click the chart → Chart Elements

  1. Click to select the chart you inserted.
  2. Select Chart Elements.
  3. In the Chart Elements dialog, select or clear items such as chart title, axes, and data labels.
  4. If needed, continue to Quick Layout to switch to another chart layout.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: Chart titles, axes, data labels, or other elements appear or are hidden based on your settings.
  • Next action available: You can continue to adjust styles, properties, or export the chart.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the chart is not selected first, the Chart Elements entry will not appear.
  • Environment note: A chart object must already exist in the worksheet.

2. Change Chart Styles

Entry: Click the chart → Chart Styles

  1. Click to select the chart.
  2. Select Chart Styles.
  3. In the Style dialog, choose a preset style and apply it to the current chart.
  4. In the Color dialog, switch to another chart color scheme.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The chart appearance, color, or overall visual style changes.
  • Next action available: You can continue to edit chart elements or change the chart type.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you only change the color without applying a style, the overall layout may stay the same.

3. Modify Chart Properties

Entry: Double-click the chart / Click the chart → Edit Chart

  1. Double-click the chart, or click the chart and select Edit Chart.
  2. Open the properties panel and review the Data and Series settings.
  3. Adjust the data range, horizontal categories, or series as needed.
  4. Continue in the chart element style area to adjust color, font, title, axis title, axes, or data labels.
  5. Review the live preview and confirm the result.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The chart data range, series, or formatting settings are updated.
  • Next action available: You can continue to change the chart type or export the chart.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the header row is omitted when changing the data range, category labels may not display as expected.
  • Environment note: It helps to confirm that the source data range is formatted correctly first.

4. Change Chart Type

Entry: Click the chart → Change Chart Type

  1. Select the chart you want to modify.
  2. Right-click the chart area and choose Change Type.
  3. Select a new chart type in the panel that appears.
  4. Click OK to complete the switch.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The chart changes to the new type.
  • Next action available: The original data remains available, and you can continue editing styles and elements.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Switching chart types without checking whether the new type fits the data can reduce readability.

5. Save as Picture

Entry: Right-click the chart → Save as Picture

  1. Right-click the chart you want to export.
  2. Select Save as Picture from the menu.
  3. Choose a save location in the dialog.
  4. Click Save to finish the export.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The exported chart image file appears in the selected local folder.
  • Next action available: You can insert the image into documents, slides, or other materials.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not confirm the save path before exporting, the file may be hard to find later.
