When using Chart Tools, common questions usually involve data refresh, chart export, and finding the editing entry; this FAQ covers 3 frequent questions and solutions.
FAQ
What should I do if the chart does not update after the source data changes?
- First confirm that you changed the cells used by the chart, not a different area.
- If the chart does not refresh, reopen Edit Chart and check whether the data range is correct.
- If needed, set the data range again and confirm that the series and horizontal axis categories are linked correctly.
Will a chart saved as a picture still update automatically with the source data?
- No. After you save a chart as a picture, the exported file becomes a separate image and will not keep updating with spreadsheet data.
- The original chart in the worksheet can still update with the source data.
- If you need the latest image, export it again after updating the chart.
Why can’t I see the chart editing entry after selecting the sheet?
- Make sure you selected the chart object itself, not a regular cell range.
- If there is no chart in the worksheet yet, insert one first or open an existing chart.
- After selecting the chart, check whether entries such as Chart Elements, Chart Style, or Edit Chart appear.
