How-to Guide
1. Set Horizontal Alignment
Entry: Home tab → Alignment group
- Open the spreadsheet you want to edit and select the target cell or range.
- Go to the Home tab and find the Alignment group.
- Click a horizontal alignment button.
- Select Align Left, Center, or Align Right as needed.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The selected content moves to the chosen horizontal position.
- What you can do next: You can continue editing, copy formatting, or save the file.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If no cell is selected first, the change may not apply to the intended area.
- Environment note: If the spreadsheet is read-only, alignment changes may not be available.
2. Set Vertical Alignment
Entry: Home tab → Alignment group
- Select the cell range whose display position you want to adjust.
- In the Alignment group, click a vertical alignment control.
- Select Top Align, Middle Align, or Bottom Align.
- If the cell height is large, try middle alignment first to review the visual result.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The content changes position in the vertical direction inside the cell.
- What you can do next: You can continue adjusting row height, wrapping, or other formatting.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If the row height is too small, the vertical alignment change may not be obvious.
- Environment note: Increase row height first if you need a clearer visual difference.
3. Open More Alignment Settings
Entry: Right-click the selected range → Format Cells
- Select the target cell range and right-click to open the context menu.
- Select Format Cells to open the side panel.
- Switch to the text-related settings area.
- Under Horizontal Alignment, choose from left, center, right, justify, distributed, fill, or center across selection.
- Adjust indentation if needed.
- Under Vertical Alignment, choose top, middle, bottom, justify, or distributed.
- Review the live display result in the spreadsheet and fine-tune the settings.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: More alignment options are visible in the panel, and the spreadsheet updates with the new display result.
- What you can do next: You can continue adjusting indentation or return to normal spreadsheet editing.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: Changing only horizontal alignment may still leave the final layout uneven.
- Environment note: The visual result can vary depending on content length and cell size.
