1. View word count

Entry: Bottom status bar → Word count area

  1. Open the document you want to edit or review.
  2. Find the word count area on the left side of the bottom status bar.
  3. Check the current full-document count directly in that area.
  4. If you want more count options, click the area to open the available counting methods.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: the bottom status bar shows the current document count.
  • Next action available: you can keep editing while watching the count update.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: if no document is open or the bottom status bar is not visible, the count area may not appear.
  • Environment note: the count updates based on the current document content.

2. Change the counting method

Entry: Click the word count area → Select a counting method

  1. Open a document, then click the word count area on the bottom status bar.
  2. Review the available counting methods in the panel.
  3. Select total words, total characters with spaces, or total characters without spaces.
  4. After selection, use that method as your default view for future checks.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: the count area displays results using the selected method.
  • Next action available: future checks continue to use the current default method.
  • No side effect: other collaborators do not see their count method changed by your setting.
