1. Create a comment from the right-click menu

Entry point: Right-click menu → Insert Comment

  1. Select the cell where you want to add a comment.
  2. Right-click the cell.
  3. Select Insert Comment.
  4. Enter your note in the comment box.
  5. Click anywhere in the worksheet to finish.
  6. Check whether a small red triangle appears in the upper-right corner of the cell.

Success Criteria

  • A comment has been added to the target cell.
  • You can view the comment content when you hover over the cell.

Tips While Using

  • A comment adds explanation to a cell and does not change the original cell value.

2. Create a comment from the Review tab

Entry point: Review → New Comment

  1. Select the target cell.
  2. Open the Review tab.
  3. Click New Comment.
  4. Enter the comment content and confirm.

Success Criteria

  • A comment input box appears for the current cell and saves the content.
  • The cell shows a comment indicator in the upper-right corner.

3. Edit a comment from the right-click menu

Entry point: Right-click menu → Edit Comment

  1. Right-click a cell that already has a comment.
  2. Select Edit Comment.
  3. Update the content in the comment box.
  4. Click a blank area in the worksheet to confirm.

Success Criteria

  • The original comment content has been updated.
  • The edited content appears when you view the comment again.

4. Edit a comment from the Review tab

Entry point: Review → Edit Comment

  1. Select a cell that already has a comment.
  2. Open the Review tab.
  3. Click Edit Comment.
  4. Change the content and confirm.

Success Criteria

  • The comment content is saved with the updated text.

5. Show or hide one comment from the right-click menu

Entry point: Right-click menu → Show/Hide Comment

  1. Right-click a cell that has a comment.
  2. Select Show/Hide Comment.
  3. Check whether the comment display state changes.

Success Criteria

  • The selected cell comment switches between shown and hidden states.

6. Show or hide one comment from the Review tab

Entry point: Review → Show → Show/Hide Comment

  1. Select a cell that has a comment.
  2. Open the Review tab.
  3. Open the Show drop-down menu.
  4. Click Show/Hide Comment.

Success Criteria

  • The display state of the selected cell comment changes.

7. Show or hide all comments

Entry point: Review → Show → Show All Comments

  1. Open the Review tab.
  2. Open the Show drop-down menu.
  3. Click Show All Comments.
  4. Click it again if you want to return to the hidden state.

Success Criteria

  • All comments in the worksheet can be shown or hidden together.

8. Delete a comment from the right-click menu

Entry point: Right-click menu → Delete Comment

  1. Right-click a cell that has a comment.
  2. Select Delete Comment.

Success Criteria

  • The comment is removed from the current cell.
  • The small red triangle indicator disappears.

9. Delete a comment from the Review tab

Entry point: Review → Delete Comment

  1. Select a cell that has a comment.
  2. Open the Review tab.
  3. Click Delete Comment.

Success Criteria

  • The comment in the selected cell is deleted.

10. Move to the previous or next comment

Entry point: Review → Previous / Next

  1. Open the Review tab.
  2. Click Previous or Next.
  3. Check whether the selection moves to the adjacent comment location.

Success Criteria

  • You can move continuously between existing comments.

11. Reset the current comment

Entry point: Review → Reset Current Comment

  1. Select a cell that has a comment.
  2. Open the Review tab.
  3. Click Reset Current Comment.
  4. Check whether the current comment returns to its default format, size, and position.

Success Criteria

  • The current comment returns to its default display state.

12. Reset all comments

Entry point: Review → Reset All Comments

  1. Open the Review tab.
  2. Click Reset All Comments.
  3. Check whether all comments in the worksheet return to their default state.

Success Criteria

  • All comments in the current worksheet return to their default format, size, and position.

Tips While Using

  • This action affects all comments in the current worksheet, so confirm whether any custom display setup still needs to be kept.
