1. Create a Custom Name
Entry path: Tools → Data → Name → Define Name
- Tap the Tools button at the bottom.
- Switch to the Data tab.
- Tap Name.
- Select Define Name.
- Enter a name, such as "SalesTotal".
- Select the cell or range reference to bind.
- Tap OK to finish creating the name.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the new name appears in the name list.
- Next action available: you can enter the name directly in a formula.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if the name conflicts with an existing one, change the name and save again.
- Environment note: open a spreadsheet and enter editable mode first.
2. Manage Existing Names
Entry path: Tools → Data → Name
- Tap the Tools button at the bottom.
- Switch to the Data tab.
- Tap Name.
- In the panel, view all names created in the current workbook.
- Do one of the following as needed:
- Select the name you want to manage.
- Edit the name or its referenced range.
- Or delete the name you no longer need.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the name list shows the existing names in the current workbook.
- Next action available: you can complete an edit or deletion and see the updated result.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: before deleting a name, check whether any formulas still reference it.
- Environment note: after making changes, verify that related formulas still return the expected result.
