1. Create a Custom Name

Entry path: Tools → Data → Name → Define Name

  1. Tap the Tools button at the bottom.
  2. Switch to the Data tab.
  3. Tap Name.
  4. Select Define Name.
  5. Enter a name, such as "SalesTotal".
  6. Select the cell or range reference to bind.
  7. Tap OK to finish creating the name.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: the new name appears in the name list.
  • Next action available: you can enter the name directly in a formula.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: if the name conflicts with an existing one, change the name and save again.
  • Environment note: open a spreadsheet and enter editable mode first.

2. Manage Existing Names

Entry path: Tools → Data → Name

  1. Tap the Tools button at the bottom.
  2. Switch to the Data tab.
  3. Tap Name.
  4. In the panel, view all names created in the current workbook.
  5. Do one of the following as needed:
    1. Select the name you want to manage.
    2. Edit the name or its referenced range.
    3. Or delete the name you no longer need.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: the name list shows the existing names in the current workbook.
  • Next action available: you can complete an edit or deletion and see the updated result.

  • Common mistake: before deleting a name, check whether any formulas still reference it.
